Masthead- In terms of mastheads, this contents page produced by Q magazine follows conventions as the masthead fills approximatly 1/8th of the page. The masthead is one of the most important part of a contents page because it allows the audience to identify that it is a main page of the magazine. Additional pages do not have a masthead but the contents page and cover pages do. The logo is also located at the bottow left of the contents page to allow the audience to know what they are reading and the genre of the magazine by the masthead.
Layout- A contents page is usually dominated by text and has a use of catagory headings.This contents page follows these conventions as it involves features of the magazine by using small neat headings to fill the space. Also there is one main image which dominates the space of the contents page. In addition the contents page allows the audience to see how many pages there are in the magazine and the different types of stories relating to the genre of the music magazine. The layout is very structured, neat and tidy which will appeal to their target audience because an unreadable does not appeal to anyone especially their target audience.
Images- In terms of imagery the contents page has one large main image of an 'Oasis' band member who is featured further in the magazine. Also there is another small image of 'Queen' located at the top left of the contents page. Following conventions, this contents page lacks images featured in the magazine and does follow conventions but not fully. The images in the contents page are quite masculine and look like they are targeted towards men. Whereas the magazine targets both genders. The main image is a male pop star and the colour of the image is quite saturated and quite dull which could again appeal to a male audience.
Colour-The colour of the contents page follows strong conventions as the colour scheme is similar to the cover pages colours. The red, white and black text and heading are similar to the cover page colours and this makes the magazine unisex and appeal to all target audiences. The colour of the main image is quite saturated, however it does give the image quite a good effect. Also the image of 'Queen' looks as if the levels have been changed and the image looks quite sharp with give the image another amazing effect for the contents page. Although there is a lack of images and this downgrades the image because there is a lack of colour.
Typography- In terms of typography, there are about four different sized fonts in different texts. This helps the audience identify the different types of texts that are being displayed and their importance. Also the headings are used to grab in the audience to attract them to different stories that the magazine is featuring and allow the audience to have a brief description about each feature page being shown.
